Fundraising Guidelines - Passion and Community Events Terms and Conditions
1. Purpose
Thank you for hosting a Fundraising Activity (“Fundraising Activity”) to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (“CF Foundation”). With your support, we are confident we will continue to add tomorrows while making a difference in the lives of people with CF today!
These Fundraising Activity Terms and Guidelines (“Terms and Guidelines”) outline your responsibility as the host (“Host”) and provide you with guidance to ensure your Fundraising Activity is successful and aligns with CF Foundation standards. Please contact your local CF Foundation Executive Director with general questions regarding your Fundraising Activity. Please be advised the CF Foundation cannot offer legal advice.

These Fundraising Activity Terms and Guidelines (“Terms and Guidelines”) outline your responsibility as the host (“Host”) and provide you with guidance to ensure your Fundraising Activity is successful and aligns with CF Foundation standards. Please contact your local CF Foundation Executive Director with general questions regarding your Fundraising Activity. Please be advised the CF Foundation cannot offer legal advice.
2. Safety and Risk Management
- Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. Activities must be appropriate for age and ability.
- Alcohol service should be handled exclusively by a licensed and insured third party, such as a bartender, caterer, or venue staff (“Alcohol Server”). The Host is responsible for engaging a qualified Alcohol Server and confirming that the Alcohol Server complies with all applicable laws and regulations. The Alcohol Server is responsible for the service of alcohol, including age verification and refusing service to minors or visibly intoxicated individuals. The Host should take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguards (such as ID checks or wristbands) are in place.
3. Use of Name and Branding
Hosts who wish to promote their Fundraising Activity benefiting the CF Foundation may use the “Proud Supporter” badge with the written approval of the local chapter’s Executive Director. The CF Foundation “Proud Supporter” badge may not be altered or used for any other purpose.
4. Legal Compliance
Hosts are solely responsible for all aspects of the Fundraising Activity and agree to comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including those governing charitable solicitations. Gaming and raffle activities are discouraged as they are highly regulated by federal, state and local guidelines. If you are interested in holding an auction as part of your Fundraising Activity, please coordinate with your chapter’s Executive Director. CF Foundation accepts no liability for any issues arising from the Fundraising Activity.
5. Financial Accountability
Hosts who wish to promote their Fundraising Activity benefiting the CF Foundation may use the “Proud Supporter” badge with the written approval of the local chapter’s Executive Director. The CF Foundation “Proud Supporter” badge may not be altered or used for any other purpose.
4. Legal Compliance
Hosts are solely responsible for all aspects of the Fundraising Activity and agree to comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including those governing charitable solicitations. Gaming and raffle activities are discouraged as they are highly regulated by federal, state and local guidelines. If you are interested in holding an auction as part of your Fundraising Activity, please coordinate with your chapter’s Executive Director. CF Foundation accepts no liability for any issues arising from the Fundraising Activity.
5. Financial Accountability
- Hosts must raise funds exclusively for the CF Foundation and ensure they are remitted as promised in promotions. All fundraising materials must clearly state 100% of net proceeds benefit CF Foundation.
- The CF Foundation does not sponsor Fundraising Activities and is not responsible for logistical, financial, or administrative support. It will not enter agreements or assume liability for costs. However, limited support may be offered at its discretion, subject to additional oversight and compliance with event standards.
- Fundraising may not involve sales where a portion of proceeds benefits CF Foundation.
- The CF Foundation recommends use of its Passion Fundraising Platform (the “Passion Platform”) for donations. Funds raised via the Passion Platform may not be used to reimburse any expenses related to the Fundraising Activity. See additional terms related to the Passion Platform in Section 7.
- Hosts accepting cash or checks are not authorized to set up accounts in the CF Foundation’s name or use its tax ID. Any separate account must be in the Host’s name, and all funds must benefit CF Foundation. Tax receipts are only issued for donations made directly to the CF Foundation
- Funds collected for the CF Foundation outside of the Passion Platform, including checks payable to the CF Foundation, must be sent to the local chapter immediately following the event but no less than 30 days for proper tax receipting, if applicable. Hosts may not deposit these funds into personal or fundraising accounts.
- Hosts must maintain financial records related to the Fundraising Activity for at least one year and provide access to the CF Foundation upon request for review. Your local chapter office can provide budgeting resources, upon request.
6. Transparency and Ethics
The CF Foundation is entrusted by the public with substantial resources and responsibilities. As such, it must ensure those representing it uphold strong character, integrity, and consistently high ethical standards in both behavior and compliance. Fundraising efforts should be conducted with honesty, transparency, and respect for donors. Hosts must refrain from any form of misrepresentation, coercion, or unlawful solicitation. Fundraising Activities must not pose a risk to event attendees; the CF Foundation has the right to withdraw support or remove from CFF’s fundraising platform any events deemed to be high risk to attendees.
In addition, Fundraising Activities may not support or oppose political candidates or otherwise involve campaign-related activity, including candidate endorsements or speaking roles tied to candidacy. Hosts must share any proposed speakers, honorees, or participation by public officials with the CF Foundation in advance. The CF Foundation reserves the right to require changes or withdraw support to ensure compliance with applicable rules and to avoid reputational risk. Also, the CF Foundation does not accept revenue or products from tobacco companies, and volunteers may not solicit or accept such funds in connection with fundraising activities. 7. CF Foundation Platform Usage
By using or visiting the CF Foundation’s website, services, or mobile applications you are agreeing to be bound by the following Terms of Agreement.
8. Acknowledgment
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has unrestricted financial reserves of about 11 times its 2025 operating budget. These reserves are largely a result of the Foundation's successful venture philanthropy model, through which we have raised and invested hundreds of millions of dollars to help discover and develop breakthrough CF therapies. These funds and any future revenue from our model are reinvested into the CF Foundation's mission to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with CF the opportunity to lead long, fulfilling lives.
